Cagrilintide is a long-acting, fatty acid-acylated analogue of human amylin — a peptide hormone co-secreted with insulin from pancreatic beta cells. Amylin naturally works alongside insulin to regulate postprandial glucose and suppress glucagon, but its native form has poor pharmacokinetic properties. Cagrilintide was engineered for extended duration of action and is being studied both as a standalone metabolic agent and in combination with GLP-1 receptor agonists. Research suggests it may contribute to satiety signaling, slowed gastric emptying, and favorable effects on body weight — particularly when combined with complementary GLP-targeting compounds.
