KPV is a naturally occurring tripeptide (Lys-Pro-Val) representing the C-terminal fragment of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It retains the potent anti-inflammatory properties of its parent peptide while lacking the melanogenic activity, making it a highly targeted research compound for inflammatory pathways. KPV has been studied extensively in models of gastrointestinal inflammation, including inflammatory bowel disease, where it appears to act locally on intestinal epithelial and immune cells to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine production.
